A
reflection on the Gospel for the
Birth of John the
Baptist
|
We live in a competitive world. We
sometimes like to proclaim, I am
number one. Ours is the best team,
our children are the best, our city or
country is the strongest. Sometimes, as
Hispanics living in the country, we have
to make great efforts to show that
excellence. A Mexican friend of mine
married to an Ecuadorian told me once that
she always told her children that in order
to succeed in this country they needed to
show, not only that they were as good as
others but that they were, indeed, better.
This is a sad truth due in part to a
discrimination that we hope is drawing
close to an end with the rising of more
and more Hispanic leaders. The efforts we
have to make to succeed, the publicity
that corners us by all sides and
encourages us to have more than others
pushes us into a rather sick
competitiveness. Competition usually
generates jealousy, resentment, and deep
down, lack of truth. There are some people
who find it very difficult to recognize
good in others, even in competitors or
adversaries. If jealousy creeps in, it
becomes difficult to recognize even the
talents of those closest to us. It is even
harder to admit that a person might be
superior to us. Jealousy creeps into our
hearts in an insidious
way.

Una
reflexión sobre el
Evangelio del domingo del
Nacimiento de San Juan
Bautista
|
Vivimos en un mundo muy competitivo.
Soy el número uno, nos
gustaría a veces anunciar. Nuestro
equipo es el mejor, nuestros hijos son los
mejores, nuestra ciudad o país es
lo mejor...Y a veces, como hispanos,
tenemos que demostrarlo con mucho
esfuerzo. Me decía una amiga
mexicana que a veces les decía a
sus hijos que, para triunfar en este
país, no sólo deben
caminos insidiosos.
Fr.
René
Gómez
As you already know Fr.
René Gomez is retiring
after being here at St.
Brunos for 10yrs. As of
July 1st he will be retiring so
we want to invite all the
parishioners to join us on July
1st, at the 12 noon Mass, that
will be the last Mass Fr.
René will celebrate, then
following the Mass we will go
straight to the Parish Main Hall
so we can all have something to
eat and we can all say good-bye
and wish Fr. René a good
retirement. We will have a box
for good-bye cards you might want
to bring to Fr.
René.
Fr. Nicasio Paloso is going
to Our Lady of Perpetual Help as
of July 2nd so on this day we
welcome Fr. Michael Brillantes
our new Pastor and our new
Associate Pastor Fr. Santos
Rodriguez.
This summer, we will have
Summer Camp for children here at
St. Brunos Parish. Our
Sisters, the Missionaries of
Charity as usual will run these
camps for children on July 30th
to August 3rd and August 6th.
Permission slips and volunteer
forms for those who would like to
assist will be available at the
parish office.
Como ya saben El Padre
René se retira despues de
estar aqui en la parroquia de San
Bruno por 10 años. El 1 de
Julio el se retira y invitamos a
todos los parroquianos el 1 de
Julio a la Misa de 12 del dia,
esa sera la ultima Misa que el
Padre Rene celebrerara, despues
de la Misa pasaremos todos al
salon de la parroquia para tener
una comvivencia y para
despedirnos del Padre René
y desearle lo mejor en su retiro.
Tendremos un espacio especial
para si le quieren traer tarjetas
al Padre René.
El Padre Nicasio Paloso se
va a la Parroquia Our Lady of
Perpetual Help el 2 de julio y
tambien en este dia damos la bien
benida a nuestro nuevo pastor
Padre Michael Brillantes y a
nuestro asociado pastor Padre
Santos Rodriguez. En este verano
tendremos un Summer Camp para los
niños aquí en la
parroquia de San Bruno. Nuestras
hermanas misioneras de la Caridad
se encargarán de este
campo para niños
comenzando el 30 de julio hasta
el 3 de agosto y el 6 de agosto.
Puede conseguir las formas para
el permiso o para los que quieran
ser voluntarios en la oficina de
la parroquia.
