A reflection on the Gospel for the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

A self made millionaire has spent his whole life working. From a young age, the need to be successful and have everything his parents could not provide has been the driving force in his life. He is now the owner of several factories and stores. He lives in a mansion that he built in the suburbs. He no longer needs to work. He has everything. And yet today as he sits at the bedside of his wife of 40 years, he questions his achievements. A stroke has left his wife paralyzed and without speech. She is seriously disabled. He remembers the Beautiful young girl he married and the years that followed. His incessant need to work and produce took him away from the woman he loved and their family. As he sits in her presence now, he wishes he had made more difficult to simply “be” and relish the sacredness of every moment. Without a doubt, we all need to work and to provide but when we ourselves become defined by what we produce or what we make, we wander far from the dream that God has for us. If respectability was based on the size of a paycheck, most of us would not be able to hold our heads up in public. If our dignity was measured by our productivity, it would pay God to replace the human race with a team of robots!

Dear Parishioners,

Let me introduce my self I am Fr. Santos Rodriguez, and I was born in El Salvador. On May 17 was my 37th year anniversary of Priesthood. One day in my pueblo there was a great celebration and I didn’t know why, I saw a man I knew and I asked him what is the big celebration for and he told me you see that man and woman and their son, well he just became a priest and they are on their way to the Church for he will celebrate his first Mass. So the man asked me do you want to be a priest? And I answered yes! So that’s when my vocation was born. Not more then fifteen days passed when I was in the Seminary of Pio XII of St. Vincent. I studied 2 years junior, then 3 years high school and 3 years for Bachelor’s degree with the Salesian Priest. Then I went to the mayor Seminary from San Jose of Montana. Then I studied 3 years of Philosophy and four years of Theology with the Jesuit Priest. With God’s plan and destiny I came to this country in 1990. I have served at St. James, Holy Angeles, Mission Dolores, All Souls, Ephifany and now here at St. Bruno’s. I enjoy doing the Grace of God, Celebrating the Eucharist, predicting his sacred word and instructing and serving the community of God. For a higher glory and sanctification.

Estimados Feligreses,

He servido en St. James, Holy Angels, Mission Dolores, All Souls, Ephifany y hoy aqui en San Bruno.

The sisters Clarisas Capuchinas from Michoacan, Mexico, will be at the doors after the Masses. They are asking for your donation because they are building 28 bedroom. The convent were they live is over 200 years old and is made of adobe and very old. They apreciate your help and they will have you in their prayers. They thank you and ask God for your blessings.
