A reflection on the Gospel for Divine Mercy Sunday

Sometimes we refer to Thomas disdainfully, as if he had be completely out of line. But if we examine things carefully, who among us would not have doubted something as inconceivable as the resurrection of a dead person? It is true that Jesus has announced it, but his friends had not understood it any better than we have understood it. It is difficult to believe in something without having seen it or without tangible proof. Jesus gives us proof of his victory over death and justice every day. There is always some victory, no matter how small it may appear to us. There is always a sign of hope in the action of all those who struggle for truth, fairness and compassion. Jesus lets us touch the wounds in his hands and feet when we touch the wounds of his people. The wounds are there, and Jesus is therefore present it some way. In what ways do we believe and demonstrate our faith in the resurrection of Jesus?

Jesus Died for You!

We have just completed the Church celebration of Christ's Passion and Resurrection. Jesus died on the cross to save us from sin and death. What a wonderful act of love and sacrifice!

Suppose, it’s only YOU in the world to be saved, would He have done it? Yes, the Lord would have gladly done it. He did not only come to save the world but each and every one of us. As we bask in the glow of Easter, in joy and gladness, let our hearts be filled with wondrous sense of gratitude. My God loves me! My God cares for me! My God considers me precious enough that He willingly died for me and my sins!

Consequently, as we become more aware and appreciative of the personal dimension of the Jesus’ salvific act, may we cultivate a new attitude of relating with people; see them as persons, not just anonymous individuals. When at Mass we pray for people in need, the sick, the homeless, the dying, let us put names and faces. We need to see the recipients of our prayers and acts of kindness as God sees them, the way a Father sees each of His children.

So when we come together for fun, work or worship, especially the Sunday Eucharist, let's take a moment to look around at the faces of the people who are with us. Let us take a moment to say hi, look at them in the eye and exchange a few words remembering that Christ gazes with infinite love on each of us, never regretting a single drop of the blood that He shed in order to welcome all of His irreplaceable, unrepeatable children into the many rooms in His Father's house.

Happy Easter to one and all!

Mi Dios me ama!
